GECRC In Action!
November 12, 2018Joyce Hothan, GECRC’s Executive Director, to Retire
January 7, 2019Polly Green has three teenagers at home, but that doesn’t stop her from volunteering her time to tutor local children in need at The Glen Ellyn Children’s Resource Center. Polly describes her experience volunteering as one of the most rewarding things she has ever done. Over time she was able to develop a friendship with her student and help him to overcome his academic hurdles, and because they were working one on one, she could customize her sessions and style of learning to suit his needs. “Being able to work at his pace and giving him the opportunity to ask questions without feeling embarrassed in front of other students was huge. He began to develop a sense of self-confidence, and the strides I’ve seen in his school work have been amazing. It is so rewarding to show up for tutoring and see that he is excited to see me. He now talks about his excitement for middle school next year and then high school and what he might want to do when he grows up!”
